Teaching people English is a good deal like trying to teach them how to eat their dinner. The first thing necessary in the latter case is a good appetite. If that is there, the rest follows very easily. And in learning English, unless you have the appetite, the love, the spontaneous desire, you will get little satisfaction.
It's the heart that learns more than mind. To love English is the first step in learning it. If a learner has to learn English as a task, what slow progress he would make! But when his heart is in it, he will soon become a good learner.
We learn quickly and easily those things we are interested. A man interested in horses sees every fine horse in the country he passes through just like Bo Le. A car lover notes the brand of each car passing the street; a gourmand never fails to find a gourmet restaurant; a shopholic is always attracted by the stores which claim to sell at cut-throat prices. We are all paying full attention to and dedicated in the line of our business, our tasks and our desires.
If you are a lover of English, you will jump at every chance to learn it, and the chance, if you put your heart into seeking one, is never in short supply. I think I seldom miss an important and worthwhile word in my life if it is within my eye or earshot. The mind of an English lover should be like a gun with a hair trigger--it goes at a touch, even though your mind may not be intent on it, while the minds of most persons need a hard push.
So keep it in mind, it's not a laborious task to pick up new words, memorize grammar rules and toil over bulky materials. You do that because you love it. Even if you're forced to study English, you've got to adjust your attitude or look at the situation in a different way. Since it's something you have to cope with, you should learn to take it for fun, which will make you a happier person and a fast learner. So why not?
