1. how long, how often, how soon

how long“多长,多久”,用来询问某个动作持续了或将持续多长时间,常用“for +一段时间”来回答。

how often “多久一次”,表示动作发生的频率,常用always, sometimes,once a week等词来回答

how soon “多久(才回发生)”,常用来表示某一动作在将来何时才会发生,用in+一段时间来回答

-- He’ll be back in 3 days.

-- How long did you sleep last night?

2. sometimes,  sometime, some time,  some times

sometimes是频度副词,意为 “有时,不时地”,相当于at times,用于一般现在时或一般过去时

sometime 意为 “某个时间”,常和一般将来时或过去时连用

some time some times均为名词词组,前者表示 “一段时间”,后者表示 “几次”

3.频度副词

always > usually > often > sometimes > hardly ever > never

①:频度副词的位置:助动词/系动词之后,主动词之前。

They always read English in the morning.

He hardly ever exercises.

②根据上下文选用合适的副词

She lives in Canada, so we _________  _________ see her here.

A. always                   B. often

C. hardly ever     D. usually

4.as for至于,关于

Nick can stay, but as for you, you can get out of my sight.

As for homework, most students do homework every day.

5. try vt. &vi.试图;设法;努力

[用法点睛]

try sth./sb. 尝试某事物;试用某人

try to do努力做某事

try doing 试用、试做、试验

try ones best to do尽最大的努力做某事

你想尝些鱼吗?

Would you like to try some fish?

他努力想要打破窗户。

He tried to break the window.

他想试着在美国生活一段时间。

He wanted to try living in America for some time.

6. look after 照顾;照料

[同义短语] take care of

别担心,明天我会照顾孩子们的。

Don't worry, I'll look after the kids tomorrow.

苏珊对他们照顾的很好。她是个很好的厨师。

Susan looked after them very well. She is a very good cook.

7. as prep. & conj.像……一样

[用法点睛]

as +形容词或副词原形+as 像……一样

not so/as +形容词或副词原形+as 不如……

玛丽和她的姐姐一样高。

Mary is as tall as her sister.

[短语] the same () as和……一样

她的生活方式和我的一样。

Her lifestyle is the same as mine.

他和他的妻子同岁。

He is the same age as his wife.

8. different  adj.不同的

[用法点睛]

be different from 和……不同

be different in 在某方面不同

他和他父亲不同。

He is different from his father.

这两幅画在颜色上不同。

The two pictures are different in color.

[名词] difference  [C U]不同,差异,差别

[用法点睛] difference between A and B

你能告诉我他们之间的差异吗?

Can you tell me the difference between them?

9. maybe/may be

maybe 为副词,意为“或许,大概”,常放在句首

may be为情态动词+be,意为“可能是”,放在主语后。

Maybe he is not very healthy.

He may be in the classroom.

10. although/though

although相当于though,意味“虽然”,可放在句首,也可放在句末,它们都不能和but连用

或许我的身体不是很健康,虽然我有(一个有益于)健康的习惯。

Maybe I’m not very healthy, although I have a healthy habit.

虽然现在雨下地很大,他们仍然在外面跑步。

Although it’s raining heavily now, they are still running outside.

(=It’s raining heavily, but they’re still ruuning outside.)

[注意] though可用作副词,单独置于句末,意为“然而;不过;可是”

I hope you’re right. I’ll ask him, though.

11. a lot of 很多;大量

[用法点睛] 可修饰可数名词或不可数名词,口语中也可用lots of

我们有很多时间。

We have a lot of time.

12. keep  vt. &vi. 保持;继续;link v.使保持某种状态

[用法点睛] keep doing继续做某事

keep sb. doing sth.继续让某人做某事

keep sb. from doing sth.阻止某人做某事

I keep telling you, but you won’t listen.

抱歉让你等我。

Sorry to keep you waiting.

大量的蔬菜可以帮助你保持身体健康。

A lot of vegetables help you to keep in good health.

他的前妻(ex-wife)阻止他看孩子们。

His ex-wife keeps him from seeing the children.

13. must

[用法点睛]must表示“必须”,用must提问的句子,否定回答用need not/needntdont have to,表示“不必”。mustnt 表示“禁止,不许,一定不要”。

Must I finish my homework before nine o’clock?

Yes, you must. —是的,你必须。

No, you needn’t. /No, you don’t have to.

—不,不需要。

[辨析]have to/must

have to表示因客观原因或客观情况的需要,而不得不做某事;

must则表示说话者的主观看法。

I must go now. (我感觉有必要离开)

I have to walk home now because the last bus has gone.

(客观原因导致)

14. be good for对……有益处

be good at擅长做某事

be good with sb.擅长与某人打交道

她说这对我的健康有利。

She says it’s good for my health.

她擅长烹饪。

She is good at cooking.

她擅长与孩子们打交道。

She is good with the children.
